Verse 5 of Surah Al-Qasas (The Story) also focuses on the future of humanity and delivers both good news and valuable guidance. Allah states, “And We willed to show favor to those who were oppressed on earth, and to make them leaders, and to make them the heirs.” The emphasis is on “We willed.” This is crucial. Allah intended to favor the oppressed, elevating them as leaders and inheritors of the earth. The earlier verses we discussed make this one meaningful. The verse conveys that Allah has willed to make the oppressed victorious; they will become the leaders and heirs of the earth. Nothing can stop Allah’s will. When Allah decrees something, it shall come to pass. This gives meaning to our current lives as we work towards a victory that is certain and guaranteed. We are not striving for a goal that we may not achieve. This assurance fills our lives with sweetness and profound peace. We can enjoy this peace today and pass it on to our children and future generations. Now, who exactly are the righteous and the oppressed? The oppressed are those held back by the arrogant from acting freely and effectively. They lack the authority to rule the earth or act as they desire. Focus on the term “oppressed” to better understand them. When the arrogant rule the earth, the oppressed lack the freedom to pursue their goals. They are not in power. Their efforts continue, although weakened, as they are prevented from acting in accordance with Allah’s will. Yet, Allah promises to elevate them as leaders and heirs of the earth without fail.
